RE: Dodge Ram 2500

The Cummins is the only one of the three that is a true medium-duty truck engine. The same engine that's in the Dodge 2500/3500 is found in much larger commercial trucks such as Ford's own 650/750 series! Also found in motor homes, school buses, delivery trucks, etc.
This is true, the B series Cummins is used in medium duty applications. It's also true that this engine is an "entry-level" medium duty engine. The little B series works pretty hard under the hood of a real truck or bus. I used to drive B series powered school buses and while performance was decent, your foot was always to the floor and the motors were getting smoky and hard to start cold by the time they had around 100K on them.
It is also true that International's version of the Powerstroke, the older T444E and the newer VT365, are used in similar applications to the Cummins B-series. I have no experience with these engines in these applications, so I can't comment on their performance or durability.
I used to drive a 22 foot box truck with an International chassis and a Cummins....It was the best hill climbing truck I've ever driven....even with a weight of around 20,000

RE: compressed air adapters for winterizing

I used to blow the lines out on my TT, but my current fiver has low point drains, so I just take the caps off all the drains, and pull the plug on the water heater, and call it done....
...as long as freezing water has someplace to expand, freeze damage is less likely....

My panel has low, medium, full, and charge. The 4th light indicates the battery is charging. My battery is 4 years old and still works quite well even considering how seldom I dry camp....

RE: Fifth Wheel Backing Up

Ok, how about a slightly different approach that takes you out of the picture and makes it easy for him to hitch.
Usually the problem stems from not beig able to see the hitch plate as you get near the pin box. A solution is a better way of aiming.
With a magnetic hitchin rod, you can solve the problem for less than $20. (you can get them from your RV store or online at camping world Hitchin Rods) This along with some white paint and you are done.
First, hitch your 5th Wheel. Last time for this kind of fun.
Second. Place the magnetic hitchin rod at the front of the hitch plate centered at the kingpin. You may have to reduce the height of the rod, keep it as long as possible.
Third. Take some white paint and draw a circle around the base of the hitchin rod to mark where it goes.
Fourth. On the pin box, draw two straight lines up the pin box to the left and right of where the rod centers. It is best to do this when looking from inside the truck.
Fifth, let the paint dry.
Now, unhitch. Drive away and return to hitch. When your DH backs up he now must keep the rod centered between the two white lines. Doing this, getting out of the truck once to ensure proper height, then back straight in.:)
Less expensive than a camera, and you don't even need batteries.
Dave
Very good idea....
I'm lucky. My hitch sits high enough in the bed so I can see the plate and pin at the same time.....Good Luck, and practice as mush as you can....

Tire Wear

The tires on the road/slide side of my Cougar fiver are wearing more than the curbside set. The curbsides still look new afer 3 1/2 season of use, while the roadside tires are both worn heavily, especially on the inner edges. Both tires are worn about the same. Does anyone else have wear of this type?....I'm thinking it may be caused by the weight of the slide on that side of the fiver.....
I'm going to put my spare on the curbside, and swap the less worn Missions to the roadside, and buy one new tire and put it on the other curbside, and use one of the worn tires as a spare.....

E 85 in an 04 Dodge

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 with a Hemi. I can't seem to find anything on whether I can run this engine on E 85. I have found some sites detailing converting an engine to run on it, but nothing specific to a Hemi Dodge.
E 85 is $3.89 here vs $4.25 for Sunoco 87 Regular.
Any help or input is appreciated.

RE: Propane question for Keystone owners

I always use one tank, then manually switch to the other tank. I know when the tank runs out this way, and can get a refill. I never run totally out of propane this way....
I did the same thing with my Sunline TT

RE: Ram 2500 Fuel Gauge

Every Chrysler product I've ever owned (8 total), has had a quirky gauge. They seem to read full forever, then drop tp 1/2, then go a while, then drop to E....My 2004 does the same thing. If it's at half, I'll put in $50....and the gauge won't move....A friend with a Chevey has the same problem....I just go by the trip computer....

I think those U-joints have a needle grease fitting that NEVER gets lubed. Its not a zerk fitting, its a needle fitting.
The ones that have been replaced have zerk fittings....thanks...

RE: Truck Trend's Best in Class

on a scale from one to ten in credibility, truck trend mag is about a two. They have no clue about what it takes for a real working truck. Their stuck on quarter mile times and slalom type handling which is great if your looking for a tire burning grocery store getter. Soccer moms and sports car like handling going to the grocery store is about all those nabobs are good at. Just look at some of their truck of the year testing with 3500 DRWs 4x4 vs a 1500 2wd high hp smallblock. Apples vs carrots.
Any of their testing with results are about as important/credible as ........... hmmmm, the pope at a Pentecostal foot washin'.
